From South Tyrol to Lake Garda

The north of Italy is one of the most untouched areas of the Alps with breathtaking natural scenery. From South Tyrol through Trentino to Lake Garda, the journey leads from the highest peaks to Italy's largest lake. It is a journey of contrasts: in South Tyrol between Alpine ranges and Mediterranean wine landscapes in the shadow of the unique Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Trentino, mountains and water form a fascinating contrast. The northern Italian province is home to some 300 lakes, more than any other region in the Alps. In the south, Italy's largest inland body of water and the Garda Trentino forms the end. This northern part of Lake Garda is wedged between two steeply rising mountain slopes. At first glance it looks like a Norwegian fjord, but a second glance reveals olive trees and palm trees on the lakeshore. In the film "From South Tyrol to Lake Garda", nature reveals itself in its superlatives. At the transition between the high alpine mountains and the Mediterranean, the places along the route present themselves as an intersection between two worlds, between different cultures and landscapes in a unique originality. Approximately one third of Trentino's surface area is protected. Around 125 protected animal species from brown bear to capercaillie can be found in the region. The area is exceptionally rich in spruce forest, with 1000 trees for every inhabitant. There are also numerous rare plant species, which form an ideal basis for biological diversity due to the region's enormous geodiversity. The inhabitants feel a close connection with nature and wildlife. The younger generation is focusing on the green future and wants to use resources in a climate-neutral way. In Trentino, the first nature parks were founded more than 50 years ago. Today there are three parks that make up the largest part of the protected landscape. The journey impresses with spectacular nature shots and accompanies people who make music in this nature, grow a very special broccoli, climb the highest peaks and let their horses graze in the mountains.
