Portrait

Zsa Zsa Gabor

Zsa Gabor was an actress, a beauty queen, but first and foremost a star – one who ascended into Hollywood Heaven less through her professional achievements than through the skillful staging of her own persona. To be sure, the native of Hungary worked with the great directors of her time and married the wealthiest men. But one tends not to associate her with great films. Moulin Rouge – the exception to the rule – was followed by smaller roles and bit parts in more than 50 films. But this proud, self-confident woman, who came to Hollywood all the way from Eastern Europe in order to conquer the world, developed a different aspiration. Finally, the shrewd and ambitious Zsa Zsa arrived at a crucial decision: the main role of her life would be her own personality. If she couldn't be a star on the stage or in front of the camera, she could at least shine before the spotlights, on the red carpet, in the world of talk shows. She supplemented her performance by exploiting her private life, her spectacular marriages – and of course are equally spectacular divorces. Zsa Zsa Gabor was the first person in the world to be famous for being famous. In this film, Zsa Zsa Gabor tells the story of her life, which took place exclusively in the glare of publicity – although she skillfully avoided exposing what lay behind a life of stormy and tragic events.
